As if I needed another excuse to eat chocolate, a new study says that dark chocolate may mitigate the cardiovascular risks and the loss of cognitive performance due to sleep loss.
They tested the theory on 32 healthy participants after one night of undisturbed sleep and after one night of total sleep deprecation. After they ate the chocolate, several tests were administered that showed dark chocolate counteracted vascular impairment and restored working memory performance.
The researchers believe that the improvements attention, mood, emotion and member could be because of the effects of cocoa flavonoids on blood pressure and flow. So next time you’re low on sleep and having a bad day, get the blood moving with a few pieces of dark chocolate (and maybe a walk outside). And if there’s a way I may be of service, please let me know.
